Widely regarded as one of the greatest singers/songwriters ever, Elvis Costello is known for his witty lyrics, often using wordplay in his songs, which has brought him the reputation of being a “pop encyclopedia.” Rising to fame with his 1977 debut album My Aim is True, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, has won a Grammy and was even nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song for his work on the 2003 movie Cold Mountain.
That’s not where his talents end, however – he was even asked to write an opera about the life of Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen by the royal chapel of Copenhagen. Named The Secret Songs of Hans Christian Andersen, it premiered in 2007.
Costello even had his own talk show: Spectacle: Elvis Costello with… was broadcast over two years in the UK and Canada and showed interviews as well as the creative process of some of the industry’s biggest stars from the inside. His guests included the likes of Elton John, Bruce Springsteen and even former US President Bill Clinton.
Now, after building up his solo legacy, Costello has reunited with his former band, the Imposters, to play songs from no less than 30 albums that Costello released over the last 40 years.
