Hist, whist! It is now time, to borrow from E.E. Cummings, for “little ghostthings to tip-toe twinkle-toe”…perhaps in search of treats (or tricks!). While it is not a native holiday to Austria, there are even more kids Halloween events in Vienna. Little ones excited for spooky costumes and haunted happenings, and their grownups should check out this list. It’s sure to offer something for every budding witch and warlock.
A word of caution to Metropolitans new to town: Trick-or-treating (the door-to-door wandering of kids in costumes looking for candy) is not an Austrian tradition, and if your sweet little Superman tries their luck at random neighborhood homes, the reception may range from confused to downright negative. If you’re lucky, some kind person might volunteer a cough drop. It’s better overall (and more tactful) to stick to the paths of the Halloween Pumpkin Hunt or attend events that are ready and excited to provide ghostly, witchy entertainment for your mini-monsters.
And: If you know of another event that belongs on this list, please let us know!
Halloween Pumpkin Hunt 2021 by Vienna Family Network

An annual initiative of the Vienna Family Network, the Halloween Pumpkin Hunt was previously a map of homes open to trick-or-treaters. Due to covid, the organizers have come up a pandemic-friendly version: This year, the map leads to homes displaying pumpkins or jack-or-lanterns in some form, and the adults accompanying young pumpkin hunters should reward each sighting with (their own) candy. Register as a Pumpkin Hunter or a Pumpkin Host at the link below…happy hunting!
Where? The Pumpkin map will be sent to those who registered on the 29th of October.
When? October 31st from 16:00-20:00
Registration and more info at viennafamilynetwork.com/product/halloween-pumpkin-hunt-2021 Families must sign up before October 27 (18.00h)!
