Krzysztof Kieślowski’s noted TV drama is adapted to the stage.
Exploring morality in a world where God is dead and ideologies are non-existent or minimal, the Dekalog series by Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Kieślowski (The Double Life of Veronique, Three Colors Trilogy) retains relevance long after its release in the late 1980s, a stark commentary on mankind’s inability to follow its own standards. Adapted for the stage by Roland Koberg and director Stephan Kimmig as The Ten Commandments, each rule is broken with far-reaching consequences – even those less apparent like keeping the Sabbath holy. Set in a Warsaw housing project, the original ten-part, ten-hour television series is condensed to just three hours, with seven adult and two child actors proving exceptional adaptability by taking on 30 different roles. Surtitled in Polish and English.
