We asked the youngest foreign minister in the EU, Sebastian Kurz (29), what he thinks newcomers can do to get integrated, besides learning the language. Here’s what he wrote to us.

Dear Readers,

For me, integration means positive cooperation in Austria – that is why it has to be lived by both sides – by immigrants and by the society receiving them. And that means welcoming newcomers with sincere hospitality!

Besides language acquisition, the most important measures for integration are beginning to work and participating in society.

As soon as someone has made a professional or voluntary contribution to society he becomes part of it. As an immigrant, it’s important to bring this willingness with you.

At the same time, this requires the right political parameters. We want to promote, facilitate and embrace achievement!

Austria’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Integration
