Metropole Events | Spring 2019

BOOK PRESENTATION | From Empire to Republic

It’s been 100 years since the Habsburg Empire dissolved into several new, independent republics. Over the past year, Metropole featured a different one of these successor states in every issue of the magazine, as loyal readers of our magazine know. The result is a comprehensive collection of essays, photography and insights on Central and Eastern Europe.

With help of the Erste Stiftung, we compiled our project into a beautiful book – “From Empire to Republic” – and included additional articles on architecture and food in Central Europe, as well as essays on Italy, Serbia, Montenegro and the former Austro-Hungarian colony of Tianjin in China.

The presentation took place at Kuppitsch, one of the oldest bookstores in Vienna, on February 13, 2019. Special thanks to our speaker Erhard Busek, Austria’s former vice chancellor andMetropole’s editor in chief and co-publisher Dardis McNamee and managing editor Benjamin Wolf, who intiated the project.

Metropole’s managing editor Benjmin Wolf spearheaded the project, involving media and journalists from all over Europe.
Erhard Busek, director of the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe (IDM) and former vice chancellor of Austria gave an introduction.
Metropole editor in chief and co-publisher Dardis McNamee read from the book.
After the presentation, guests were treated to a glass of wine and mingled with the authors. We were thrilled that bookstore was packed with over 100 guests attending. Thanks!

METROPOLE EVENTS | Where Worlds Meet

At Metropole events we introduce guests to new ideas, people, organizations and companies – both established ones and startups – that they may not yet know. We strive to forge rela-tionships and help our guests bust out of the event calendar of their professional circles.

We always pick a stunning location that fits with the event’s theme. In the past we’ve taken metropolitans to the art space Kunsthalle, to celebrate innovation, to the Van Swieten Saal of the Medical Univeristy of Vienna to learn about the future of personlized medicine, to the Leopold Museum to celebrate the good life and to the stunning gourmet emporium Julius Meinl am Graben to celebrate food and drink or the Wien Museum to look into the future of smart cities.

The evenings include keynote speeches from local leaders, delicious food and drinks and an inspiration from startups, so plenty of inspiration to take home with your goody bag.

The Medical University was the venue to discover new med tech at “Reviving Vienna.”
The Viennese tech scene gathered at the Kunsthalle for “Tomorrow’s Heroes” (May, 2016)
At Julius Meinl am Graben we hosted foodies from vintners and gin makers to vegan hamburgers and smoked meats at “Heast, Gourmet!” (May, 2018)

METROPOLE SALON | Our Monthly Get Together

At our monthly Salon, readers can meet and get to know the editors and journalists who create our magazine. It is an oppor-tunity to share experiences and discuss the themes and stories of the current issue over a glass of wine and delicious food. We want to support and connect with our community of readers and others who share an international perspective on Vienna, Austria and Europe.

The evenings are a meeting place for both Viennese and new-comers, with featured speakers and the editorial team giving talks and insights on current Metropole projects. Follow us on social media or sign up for our newsletter to make sure you get an invi-tation for our upcoming Salons. In March we will present the current issue and talk about growth and all its multitudinous as-pects; in April, Vienna’s stunning gardens will be our topic. Don’t be a stranger and stay tuned for upcoming dates!
