Over the past six years, that understanding has driven what we do at Metropole. From our features, reviews, and live events to Survival Guides and daily news coverage, more recently surrounding COVID-19 measures. We have aimed to serve you and your needs as best we can.

It’s been a tough 20 months since the start of the pandemic. It was an unprecedented time of readership growth, bringing Metropole 10 times the traffic and doubling our subscriber numbers. But that was only half the story. The pandemic also brought a near 80% drop in advertising, which had been 60% of Metropole’s revenue. Another large share was from our sell-out events.

In the meantime, Metropole is making some changes to bolster us through these hard times – if ever there was a black swan event, the pandemic surely qualifies – and make it possible to grow and adapt to today’s ever-changing media landscape.

We are working day and night to find the best way forward.

Print Magazine

Is Metropole shutting down?

Metropole will be ceasing production of its print editions as of January 2022.

When will I receive the latest print issue?

Metropole will discontinue its print issue as of January 2022. This means print subscribers will no longer receive quarterly Metropole magazines. If you are a current Print Subscriber, you will receive a final issue in the form of a package in mid-December. After this point, you will no longer receive a print issue and all subscriptions will be discontinued.

Why have I not received my print issue yet?

Metropole will discontinue its print run as of January 2022. If you are a current Print Subscriber, you will receive a final issue in the form of a package in mid-December. After this point, you will no longer receive a print issue and all print subscriptions will be discontinued.

What will happen to my Print and Digital Subscription?

If you currently have a Print & Digital subscription to Metropole, your subscription will automatically change to a digital subscription. In the meantime, your print magazine subscription will be put on hold. Your account will no longer be charged at this stage, but you will still have access to Metropole’s online content. You will receive Metropole’s Winter 2021 print edition in the coming weeks. If you do not wish to continue with a digital subscription, you can manually go into your “My Account” and cancel your subscription.

What’s going to happen to Metropole online?

Metropole will continue to publish new online content including Coronavirus updates through January 2022 in their current form.

What will happen to my digital subscription?

If you are a monthly or annual digital subscriber, your subscription will continue into January 2022. After this, the subscription will discontinue as the print magazine and website will no longer be published or updated. If you have a continued interest in news from Vienna in English or support organizations for English speakers in Vienna, you can review Metropole’s list of resources by partners.

Can I expect anymore newsletters?

Newsletters will be delivered to all paying subscribers on a weekly basis and to all non-paying subscribers monthly until the end of January 2022. In the new year, Metropole will communicate to all subscribers any future content or plans it has.

Is there anything I need to do right now?

If you are a digital subscriber or just a registered user, there is nothing you need to do at this stage. If you are a print subscriber and have not received your Winter Issue package, please contact customer service at [email protected].

Will my data and account information be removed from the website?

Upon confirmation of closing Metropole’s website, we will give you reasonable prior notice so that you can export your data from our system if requested. In accordance with GDPR rules, Metropole will erase all your account data upon closure or beforehand if requested. The process will include erasing our database and server logs. This means you no longer receive marketing emails and newsletters. We will document our data deletion process, and you can request any documentation at your convenience.

Will I qualify for a refund for my subscription if it was recently renewed?

Metropole’s refund policy is available in its Terms and Conditions page on its website. In brief, you can cancel your subscription and receive a full refund if it is within 14 days of starting your digital subscription or within 14 receiving your first print magazine. What can we expect in 2022?

There are several routes metropole could go at this point, but we hope to continue to serve Vienna international people – better than ever before. We will keep our subscribers updated about changes being made and thank you for your loyalty and trust.

Will there be events in the future?

Metropole is not planning any future live events at this time. We will communicate to all of our readers if this changes!

Will Metropole’s books still be for sale?

Yes, Metropole’s books are available for purchase in our online shop for the foreseeable future. We will make a public announcement if this changes.

Will Metropole’s old magazines be available for sale?

Yes, Metropole’s collection of magazines from over six years of publication will be available for purchase in our online shop for the foreseeable future. We will make a public announcement if this changes.

Are there alternative news sites to get daily news updates in English?

For the time being, you will be able to access Metropole and its list of useful resources about life in Vienna here.
