Vienna has succumbed to the concept market: a compilation of fashion, design and food vendors brought together for their new, trendy or popular offerings.
If something is “fesch” it’s good-looking, or handsome; the word almost includes a flirtatious wink. The Fesch’markt, now in its 5th year, is all about fesch. The people range from bearded hipsters to stylish elderly women and the products from organic pastries to handcrafted accessories.
Over 15,000 design lovers, foodies and artists flock here to peruse the new trends, nibble new foods and be inspired. Starting on November 13, the 4,000 square meters of the Ottakringer Brewery will be decked out with 220 market stands, 25 food vendors over the three days.
It’s been a success story since the start five years ago. The creators, Katrin Hofmann and Barbara Daxböck began the market as a get together for friends, but instead of 300 visitors, 1,700 showed up the first time and since then they’ve peaked at 17,000 increasing numbers by a factor of ten.
The concept is based on innovation and inspiration and aims to give young designers the spotlight, with half of the exhibitors Austrian and the other half mostly from neighboring countries like Hungary, Slovenia and the Czech Republic.
Every year they get thousands of applications from artists who want to exhibit at the market and the selection is strongly based on quality and current trends.
Fashion, unique accessories and original artwork will be on sale at Hotel Kugel. Young restaurateurs will be providing vegan grub and sweet temptations to keep you going.
