ORF Bosses – 13 New Directors at the Austrian Public Broadcaster

The 35 members of the Austrian Public Broadcaster, ORF’s Board of Trustees have appointed its four central and nine provincial directors.

Under the designated ORF general director Roland Weissmann, ORF III managing director Eva Schindlauer will be the new finance director, ORF III chief editor Ingrid Thurnher the radio director, Puls 4 channel director Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz the programme director, and GIS head Harald Kräuter the technical director.

All five-year terms are due to start on January 1, 2022.

The four central directors were appointed with 32 of 35 votes, so 90% approval. There were no opposing votes, only three abstentions.

Among the provincial directors for the Austrian public broadcaster, four terms were extended, and five new appointments were made. Werner Herics in Burgenland, Gerhard Koch in Styria province, Karin Bernhard in Carinthia, and Markus Klement in Vorarlberg were renewed as provincial directors. Bernhard and Klement were recently criticized publicly for their management style, but this did not hamper their reappointments.

The new appointments were Edgar Weinzettl in Vienna, Robert Ziegler in Lower Austria, Klaus Obereder in Upper Austria, Esther Mitterstieler in Tyrol, and Waltraud Langer in Salzburg. This increased the female quota from two to three provincial directors at ORF.
