Ski Jumper Gregor Schlierenzauer Ends Career

It was not an easy decision to end his active career after everything he experienced as a top athlete, said Gregor Schlierenzauer, but the decision and the timing both felt right.

In his blog, the ski jumper said that the past few months were a challenge for him, in a positive way. Because of the last break due to an injury, he had the needed time and necessary distance to work through past issues and see where he was now, he said.

Schlierenzauer also won Olympic team gold in 2010, as well as team silver (2014) and two single bronze medals (2010). In the Nordic World Ski Championships, he was world champion six times – as well as winning silver fives times, and bronze once.

If one included the four ski jumping World Cup gold medals and one silver, Gregor Schlierenzauer won 17 World Cup medals.

However, his last World Cup win was in 2014. He ended the 2020/2021 season early because of a knee injury.

The ski jumper thanked his trainers, partners, and fans for the years of support.
