Austrian President Congratulates Greenpeace

On the occasion of the 50th birthday of the environmental NGO Greenpeace, President Alexander Van der Bellen congratulated the organization at a personal meeting on Monday in the Hofburg in Vienna. The head of state praised Greenpeace as a “milestone in the environmental movement”. “Great successes have been achieved, but the work has not gotten any less,” said the President.

“Over the past 50 years, Greenpeace has achieved a great deal for the protection of the environment. We have uncovered numerous environmental crimes and made politicians and corporations accountable if they threatened our environment,” said Alexander Egit, Managing Director of Greenpeace in Central and Eastern Europe as well CEO of Greenpeace EU. Egit named the climate and species crisis as the current greatest challenges.
