Who Would You Vote For?

In less than a week, Europeans go to the polls to elect the new European Parliament. Despite the transnational character of the EU elections, party lists are still national, so Austrians have a choice of 7 parties on their ballot on May 26:

  • Christian Democrats / Conservatives (ÖVP)
  • Social Democrats (SPÖ)
  • Freedom Party (FPÖ)
  • The Greens
  • Neos
  • Europa Jetzt
  • Communists (KPÖ Plus)

To give voters a better sense of what policies are actually on offer, the platform Wahlkabine.at compiles for every nation-wide election a quick and easy quiz on the parties’ positions, as stated by themselves.

EU Elections in English

We translated the 25 questions for you – since the questions appear randomly, we also added the German version in italics. With this little guide, you can take the quiz and see what party you might be closest to in the European elections in Austria. Possible answers are always Yes (Ja), No (Nein) and No Comment (Keine Angabe), plus you have to choose the importance of the issue on a scale from 1 (least important) to 9 (most important).
