Verb. anbraten means to flirt, hit on, come onto or try to pick up someone – usually at a bar, but applicable anywhere. Lit. to fry or roast something; the operative analogy being that courtship is much like cooking – you need to marinate, season, then sear quickly on both sides, and follow with the constant application of steady heat, if you want a tasty dish. Though probably best to skip the sides and avoid medium-rare.
